Your LinkedIn banner is one of the first things people see when they visit your profile. It’s your digital billboard and now, how it displays on mobile has changed.
LinkedIn recently updated its mobile layout to match the desktop view more closely. That means your profile photo is now aligned to the left, not centered as before. While it might sound like a minor tweak, it directly affects how your banner looks on different devices and if you’re not designing for both views, your visuals might not look their best.
Here’s a quick guide to help you design a LinkedIn banner that looks clean, professional, and optimized for both desktop and mobile users.
Banner Dimensions That Work Everywhere
To create a banner that scales well on all screens, use:
- Recommended Size: 1584 x 396 pixels
- Avoid Zone (a.k.a. the “No-Go” Area): The bottom-left section (roughly 568 x 264 px) gets blocked by your profile photo and interface buttons so skip adding important text or visuals here.
How It Looks on Desktop
- On desktop, LinkedIn shows the full banner, but your profile photo overlaps the left side, covering a circular area about width 364 & height 224 pixels.
- Tip: Place key design elements (text, icons, branding) on the center right side for maximum visibility.
How It Looks on Mobile
- Mobile uses the same banner size but here's the catch: The profile photo gets bigger, about width 568 & height 264 pixels in diameter, and still stays on the left. This means it covers even more of your design.
- Pro Tip: Keep all crucial content toward the center or right third of the banner to ensure nothing important gets hidden.
Design Tips for a Banner That Works on All Devices
- Use bold, legible fonts that stand out over background images.
- Keep your layout clean, don’t overcrowd with too much text.
- Balance visuals so they look great whether cropped or fully visible.
- Test your banner in both views (desktop & mobile) before finalizing.
